Neuadd Cwmllynfell Hall is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee . The organisation has been managing the new community centre since 2003. It was one of a small number of successful community organisations in Wales to receive a capital grant from the Millennium Fund to convert a former Miner’s Welfare Hall into a modern community centre. Since the opening of the new building in 2003, the organisation has raised income through a variety of grant schemes and its own fundraising efforts to develop activities in the centre. It employs a full-time Hall Manager and a part-time Assistant Manager. It is supported in its work by volunteers, including the trustees.
What we do
The trustees meet at least once a month throughout the year to plan activities and special events; to ensure that the building is well-maintained and operating to its full potential; and to manage its paid staff. It receives some grant assistance from Cwmllynfell Community Council and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, and the remainder, about two-thirds of its annual income, is generated from room hire charges, sales of refreshments, a 100 club, other fundraising activities and from applications to grant-giving trusts.
The trustees also contribute to the day-to-day running of the centre and provide voluntary cover for staff on holiday or sickness leave. They work to a 5-year business plan and are constantly developing ways of improving the facilities in the centre to meet local needs. For example, in June 2019 it opened a community cafe, CAFFI’R NEUADD, which privides hot and cold meals and refreshments every weekday. They are always open to new ideas for services and activities from local people of all ages.
The community centre provides security to the adjacent bowling green and the young people’s skateboard and activities park.
